- The painting (now Louvre inv. 149) is believed to portray Isabella Guerrieri Gonzaga Canossa, a widow from Verona.
For earlier proofs see 1922,0722.50, 52 and 51.
Compared with the earlier state (1922,0722.52) some cross-hatching has been added, notably in the sky, which in the previous state mostly consisted of horizontal lines.
