- Curator's comments
- The painting (now Louvre inv. 149) is believed to portray Isabella Guerrieri Gonzaga Canossa, a widow from Verona.
This is a working proof. For earlier proofs see 1922,0722.50 and 52. for later proof see 1922,0722.53.
Compared with the earlier proof (1922,0722.52) some hatching has been added, notably on the woman's arms and the boy's head, and the sky has been completely reworked, but is still composed of mainly horizontal lines (some cross-hatching added in the later state).
