- As Daniel Ternois observed this is a copy after Lieure 284 (an impression of the etching X,4.89 is mounted above) from the uncompleted 'Grande Passion' series. For an autograph study for a print in the same series see 1895,1214.74. Other examples of Callot's studies for this print series, that prove beyond doubt that the present work is an old and good quality copy after the print, are illustrated in D. Ternois in exhib. cat., Nancy, Musée Historique Lorrain, 'Jacques Callot: 1592-1635', 1992, pp. 448-461.
