- Curator's comments
- After a drawing by Parmigianino in the British Museum (Inv. No. Ff,1.80). (A. E. Popham, Catalogue of Drawings by Parmigianino, 1971, p. 96, no. 206).
This is a companion print to the 'Lute Player' (B.XII.143.3) which is of the same size and also marked with the monogram 'AT' in the lower frame (which is an integral part of the block). See Naoko Takahatake, 'The chiaroscuro woodcut in Renaissance Italy', Los Angeles County Museum of Art 2018, cat.27.
This impression of the third state (of three) appears to have been printed in Parmigianino's workshop in Bologna (information kindly communicated by Naoko Takahatake).
