A man at left and woman at right sitting against a square pedestal inscribed with the days of the week, the man representing comedy, a bottle and glass on the table beside him, laughing and holding a sheet inscribed 'Rule a Wife and have a Wife' and 'Bon Ton', the lady with an expression of melancholy, holding a paper lettered with Shakespeare's 'Richard III' and 'Lyar' [sic]; after Bunbury, private plate. 1781

- Atttribution to Bretherton is suggested by Tim Clayton. For a comparison with his etching style see 1906,0419.143.
(Note from Tim Clayton) This was presumably the plate sold Bretherton 1799, first day, lot 127, 'two Wynnstay theatre and Old Lynch' with 20 impressions to and unknown buyer.
