Curator's comments: Thomas Watson died in 1781 and this plate was published posthumously by his father. The print was titled 'Miss Walpole' and then 'Nancy' in a later state. Judging by Tim Clayton's descriptions of the states, this is a proof before title (the 'W' from the artist's name having been omitted when re-titled). See 1906,0419.130 for the later titled state and a detailed comment on the subject.
