Curator's comments
The second version of a plate first executed in 1723; Audran reworked it (the pedestal was replaced by the rocky promontory) and the plate was advertised in 'Mercure', October 1736. Engraved after a sculpture by Louis Garnier now in the Musée de Versailles.
