Curator's comments
Firstly engraved for the thesis of Charles Maurice Le Telllier, whose viva was held at the Sorbonne in April 1665; as the thesis and the saint (who opposed Pope Stephanus) both strongly alluded to gallicanism, the plate was reworked at a later date by de Poilly, and St Cyprian was turned into a figure of St John Chrysostom.
