- Curator's comments
- (Description and comment from M.Dorothy George, 'Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires in the British Museum', V, 1935)
The subject, in manner and dress, resembles, though with a more demure air and a longer petticoat, 'A Modern Demi-rep' BMSat 4922. Cf. BMSat 4923.
The preliminary drawing by an 'Artist', as opposed to a 'Lady' or a 'Gentleman', is listed as no. 1 in 'A Catalogue of Darly's Comic Exhibition', 1778 (National Art Library, V&A, Special Collections 95.HH.27).
