- The plate is extracted from Vol. II of 'Oeuvres de Molière' (Paris, 1734), p. 181 and held in a bound album belonging to H. S. Ashbee; the male figure on the left of the composition is also found in 'Cireur de bottes', a drawing used for the 'Cris de Paris' series printed by Ravenet and Le Bas (see Cailleux, 1964, No. 3); for comment on the series, see 1914,0228.2962.
