Description
A Scholar in His Study ('Faust'); Man wearing robes and a cap standing behind his desk looking over his left shoulder towards the left at the apparition of an inscribed and radiant disk and a vague figure with a pointing hand in the window, a globe in the right foreground, papers, a skull and curtain in the left background; posthumous fifth state with additional parallel lines in pile of books, many shadows strengthened in etching, before beam of light shining at the sitter's face is divided in two beams, before complete reworking. c.1652 Etching, drypoint and burin
