(London, Hamilton, Adams and Co.).1859-1862; containing 18 baxter process colour plates of landscapes, biblical and genre scenes after paintings by artists including Sir Joshua Reynolds, Guido Reni, Correggio, Carracci, Cuyp and Gainsborough, each accompanied by letterpress biographical information about each artist and a description and interpretation of the plate. Letterpress "Notice" from "W.D." acknowledging the "Prose Illustrations" by the Rev. B. G. Johns, and thanking the Earl of Carlisle, Her Majesty the Queen and "other Noblemen and Gentlemen" for allowing pictures to be copied. Folio sized, bound in original blue cloth boards with ornate gilt tooled title and borders to front, gilt tooled design to spine and leaves edged in gilt.
