Bound volume of inlaid proofs of 55 wood-engravings by Samuel Williams, John Thompson, Thomas Wales Lee, Alfred Williams and J Cooper, after George Scharf; illustrations to Mrs Markham's 'A History of England' (London: 1853, John Murray), including portraits of rulers, historic buildings, tombs with effigies, coat of arms, a seal and a coin; border of a line drawn in pen and ink around each image; bound in blueish-green cloth and dark purple leather, with gold lettering on front 'Markhams. / England.' and on spine 'Markham's England'.
