Curator's comments
Part of "The fall of man, the life and passion of Christ," a series of forty cuts. See the comment for the first print from the series, 1912-8-8-34 (Schreiber 2389.a). The present cut belonged to the part of the series engraved by the "Master of the Aachen Madonna" and is further a copy after an engraving by the Master E S. Dodgson notes that the subject properly belongs to a series of saints (cf. Schreiber No. 2521.a), and was used in this Passion series as a substitute for the scene in which Veronica wipes Christ's face on the way to Calvary.
