Christ presented to the people; Ecce Homo; Pontius Pilate standing on a dais and surrounded by soldiers at left, pointing at Christ on his right side, the gaoler between them, a crowd gathered in front; on the far left side of the dais, holding a jug of water and a large bowl in which Pilate will shortly (and literally) 'wash his hands' of the affair, people leaning from the windows and doorways of the surrounding buildings; oblong plate; third state with the right leg of the man on extreme left of dais shaded with cross-hatching, after the doorway in the left background had been shaded with open cross-hatching incorporating the vertical lines, before top of plate has been cut to remove the architrave above the statues. 1655
