- This is one of 3 sheets from a vellum sketchbook that came to the Museum as part of Salting's Bequest in 1910 (1910,0212.108-110). They were registered as the work of Israel Silvestre but were moved by Christopher White to Lincler in 1955 as the view of Anger (1910,0212.109) was engraved by François Collignon as part of a series showing French towns ('Vues génerales de diverses villes de France'; R.-A. Weigert, 'Inventaire du Fonds Français du Cabinet des Estampes de la Bibliothèque Nationale, Graveurs du XVIIe siècle', Paris, 1954, III, nos. 22-28, pp. 108-110. Lincler is named as the designer of the series and hence it follows that the BM drawings are by him, although it appears that he is otherwise unknown as a draughtsman.
