- Curator's comments
- Although not specifically linked to any of the 'Carceri' etchings, the drawing's architectural motifs, such as the bridge pierced by an oculus and the vaulting above, are like those in the second edition of the series issued in 1761. The style of the drawing with free red chalk underdrawing is like 1840,0314.159, 1908,0616.8, 20 and 21, a group of studies most plausibly dated to the first half of the 1750s.
