- Curator's comments
- An early drawing generally dated to around 1740, either before Piranesi left Venice for Rome or shortly after his arrival there. The staircase in a courtyard quickly sketched on the verso recalls the Scala d'Oro in the Palazzo Ducale in Venice.1908-6-16-19 is another example of an early scenographic-type drawing much influenced by Piranesi's study of Bibiena theatrical designs.
