Elliott likely sketched these views while serving on HMS Leander or HMS Dauntless. His topographic sketches from India, Canton, and the Red Sea (1822-1824) were published in two volumes in 1833 by Fisher & Co., entitled 'Views in the East, comprising India, Canton, and the Red Sea. With historical and descriptive illustrations.'
Another artist produced pen drawings on this voyage. These are compiled in an album titled 'Views taken while serving on the East Indian Station in H.M. ships Leander and Dauntless, between 1820 and 1822', in the Rex Nan Kivell Collection NK 9840/1-37, National Library of Australia.
