- Curator's comments
- Although the image is inscribed with the initials "J.S del" below, the drawing came to the collection as by Isaac Cruikshank and for a long time it was kept with his other drawings for ease of retrieval. In 1998, Simon Turner identified J.S as the amateur caricaturist, Lieut. James Sheringham, a contemporary of George Cruickshank.
