- In the 1850s, after the Westminster cartoons competition, Watts promoted the idea of large-scale wall paintings in fresco to adorn public buildings. He received a commission to paint a mural for Lincoln's Inn, 'Justice: A Hemicycle of Lawgivers', designed in the mid-1850s.
