- Curator's comments
- The painting was exhibited at the summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1869 (no.438). See 'George Heming Mason' (1982), Stoke-on-Trent City Museum and Art Gallery, no.49 (private collection). The painting was etched by M F Regamay and published by Robert Dunthorne as 'Dancing Girls' in 1881. Remamay does not appear in Bénézit 'Dictionnaire' (1999) and it is likely that the etcher is either Félix Élie Régamey (1844-1907) or Frédéric Regamey (1849/51-1925) as 'M' may indicate 'Monsieur'.
