- Curator's comments
- 1905,1110.61 and 1905,1110.62 are studies for the drapery of the Virgin in the 'Madonna dal collolingo'.
See Popham, 'Catalogue of the Drawings of Parmigianino', Cambridge, 1971, No.244.
1905,1110.61 and 1905,1110.62 are studies for the drapery of the Virgin in the 'Madonna dal Collo Lungo'. The position of the arms, the body and the neck had already been fixed in these two drawings and in the third, lost, study. Parmigianino is here concerned with the drapery which falls over the right shoulder between the breasts and which is bunched up at the waist (this particular fall of drapery does not occur in the third study). For other studies of the Virgin and Child in this picture see Freedberg (loc. cit. and Addenda, p. 254) and Popham (loc. cit.).
