- Summary of J.Rowlands, 'Drawings by German Artists and Artists from German-speaking regions of Europe in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum: the Fifteenth Century, and the Sixteenth Century by Artists born before 1530', London, BM Press, 1993, no. 48:
'The pen-work of this reasonably well-preserved drawing, impressive for the assurance of its rhythmic execution, is so close in style to the ‘St Christopher’ signed and dated 1510 in Hamburg (Winzinger, ‘Altdorfer’, pl. 22), as Dodgson noted, that it can be reasonably dated about the same time.'
Lit from Rowlands 1993: C. Dodgson, Burlington, vi, 1904, p. 74 repr.; Voss, Ursprung, p. 145; Vasari Society, iii, 1st series, no. 27, repr.; Baldass, Altdorfer, 1923, p. 37; Tietze, Altdorfer, p. 52; Weinberger, Huber, p. 50; Becker, pp. 18, 115, no. 48, repr.; Baldass, Altdorfer, 1941, pp. 74f; Winzinger, Altdorfer, pp. 51, 80, no. 47, repr.; Berlin, Altdorfer, p. 142, no. 67, repr.
