Portrait of Thomas Hill, the book collector, standing in a room in profile to right, looking up and holding the tails of his coat so as to warm his backside at the fire; table in front of him at right, with upturned top hat, on which lies a copy of 'The [Morn]ing Chronicle', another newspaper, and a box; two shelves of books on wall behind, with a paper lettered 'Thos Hill Esqr.'; fireplace at left, and umbrella leaning against wall; private plate.
