- Curator's comments
- This is a later state of a plate published by MacKenzie (see impression in BM: 1920,1211.1558). In this later state the background has been altered, with a column added in the background, and some lines added to the Cardinal's clothing.
The earlier state published by MacKenzie indicates the plate was engraved by Woolnoth; presumably this means that Woodman's contribution was confined to the alterations mentioned above.
