- Curator's comments
- There is a daguerrotype (c.1849-52) of this subject in the Ruskin collection, University of Lancaster. See exh. cat., Ruskin and Venice, arranged by Robert Hewison, J.B. Speed Art Museum, Louisville, Kentucky, Oct-Nov. 1978, cat. no 77 and 78 (published by Thames and Hudson in UK, pp. 88-90) where both the drawing and the daguerrotype are reproduced.
These columns are also the subject of another drawing by Ruskin in the BM: 1967-10-14-141, and they are part of a group on similar paper that may have been done in connection with a request for a large drawing of St Mark's now in the Fogg Art Museum, Boston.
