- The swirling, rising interlocked forms of the female figures in this design can be seen as a development from Flaxman's formal experiments with relief figures on tomb monuments such as that to Agnes Cromwell (see 1862,0308.29 for a similar design). Another candelabra utilising a similar approach is that which forms part of the Grand Service of royal plate depicting 'Mercury presenting Bacchus to the Nymphs' which was designed in 1809.
