Aspertini sketch-book (so-called London I): 39th opening
left (1898,1123.3(38) verso) and right-hand page (1898,1123.3(39) recto) with a section of the Judgement of Paris, the male figure holding a shield, with the gods on Olympus on the right c. 1535

- This is after the sarcophagus in Villa Medici (Bober-Rubinstein 1986, no. 119, p. 149, see www.census.de, ID 15277) and the group of Paris and the nymphs is reproduced on f. 1898,1123.3.36 (see entry). The female figure on the far right in Aspertini's drawing is more reminiscent of the one on the right hand page of f. 1898,1123.3.8 (see entry) than the one one on the actual sarcophagus. According to Bober the sarcophagus came to the Villa Medici from the della Valle Capranica collection, but it is not certain whether it belonged to della Valle in Aspertini's day (see Bober 1957, p. 68). Aspertini previously interpreted the sarcophagus on his Wolfegg Codex, f. 19.
