- The first of a large number of views of cities of the world, with varying register numbers and provenances, that have been collected together and arranged in alphabetical order in a post-binder. They all derive from the series 'Raccolta di le piu illustri et famose Città di tutto il Mondo', of which there are four copies in the British Library (Maps C.24.a.5; C.25.d.10; C.27.a.32; 28.a.11). These copies have a titlepage giving the title and the name of Donato Rascicoti in Venice as publisher, but no date. The BL gives a date of c.1600, and the overlap of the careers of Valegio and Rascicoti suggests c.1598. The plates were frequently reprinted: for example, they were included in Raffaello Savonarola in 'Universus Terrarum Orbis' of 1713.
The plates were engraved by Francesco Valegio, with a few added by other hands such as Martin Rota. It is not clear what a complete copy should contain: that at C.25.d.10, for example, has 312 plates. There seems never to have been any letterpress.

- Acquisition notes
- The group of prints registered under 1898,0725.1 to 8 was recorded as being given by Franks, although it was registered a year after his death. This is because the prints were already in the BM in 1897 as a proposed gift. But they are recorded here as having being bequeathed by him.
