- Curator's comments
- Lepelletier died on 20 January 1793, Marat on 13 July 1793; both were instantly revered as martyrs of the Revolution.
The portrait of Marat reproduces a design attributed to Desrais in the IFF (Bonneville, cat. No.93; also see De Vinck cat. No. 5266) although other plates name Bonneville as the designer (see 1901,1022.579 and 1898,0527.48). Chevremont refers to the design as by Bonneville.
