- Curator's comments
- According to the catalogue of the De Vinck collection, possibly engraved by Vérité.
For comment on the series of portraits published by Vérité see 1868,0822.7272
For a different state, without the tablet or lines, see 1898,0527.86.
After a portrait of Marat which was frequently reproduced (although the wreath and stars are additions to the original design); the original design is attributed to Desrais in the IFF (Bonneville, cat. No.93; also see De Vinck cat. No. 5266) although other plates name Bonneville as the designer (see 1901,1022.579 and 1898,0527.48). Chevremont refers to the design as by Bonneville.
