- The text refers to the asssination of Marat as a recent event: the print must have been published shortly after his death, 13 July 1793.
Portrait of Marat after a design which was frequently reproduced; it is attributed to Desrais in the IFF (Bonneville, cat. No.93; also see De Vinck cat. No. 5266) although other plates name Bonneville as the designer (see 1901,1022.579 and 1898,0527.48). Chevremont refers to the design as by Bonneville.
