Some 200 drawings by Plepp survive, mostly designs for domestic glass-paintings, like the present example. Hans Jakob zu Rhein (c.1573 - 1629) was married in 1589, the year after the drawing was made, and the production of this design may have been connected with that event.
Plepp worked in Basel, Zurich and Bern.
