- Curator's comments
- The original copper plate for this print is in the BM; see 1888,0117.13. The 'Adoration of the Magi' (Hind D.II.10) is engraved on the reverse of the plate. As a result, impressions of both subjects are among the most frequently encountered of Robetta's works. For a discussion of Robetta's oeuvre see Hind D.II.4 (P&D Kk.8.30).
The BM possesses two other impressions, one of them earlier (P&D 1845-8-25-798; 1845-8-25-797); it has also a reverse copy possibly etched in the seventeenth century (P&D 1925-12-15-103). The present impression was engraved with brown ink.
For a fuller discussion of the print see P&D 1845-8-25-798.
