Curator's comments
Sold as Titian in Wellesley sale and catalogued as such by Robinson in the Malcolm catalogue. According to the annotated copy of the catalogue in the Department it was Morelli who first suggested that this was by Campagnola rather than Titian. Lit.: J.C. Robinson, 'Descriptive Catalogue of Drawings by the Old Masters, forming the Collection of John Malcolm of Poltalloch, Esq.', London, 1876, no.369 (as Titian); G. Morelli (I. Lermolieff), 'Kunstkritische Studien über Italienische Malerei. Die Galerie zu München und Dresden', Leipzig, 1891, p. 376, n. 2 (as Campagnola)
