- From a series of the Four Evangelists; a second one from the series, St Luke, is on the same mount (the other two are apparently lost). The cuts are attributed by Schreiber to the Netherlandish engraver or publisher the "Master of the Jesus of Bethany", active about 1465-85 (Schreiber lists other works under No. 2220). Dodgson notes that the common origin of these cuts with Schreiber No. 2678 (1895,0915.180) is confirmed by the precise resemblance of the pigments used and the mode of their application, cf. Dodgson, in: Prints in the Dotted Manner and other Metalcuts of the XV Century in the Department of Prints and Drawings, London 1937, No. 83-4.
