Our drawing is mentioned in connection with a sheet attributed to a certain "L. Jordaens" (active 1660-1670) in the Yale University Art Gallery, showing a hilly view near Laren in North Holland; see E. Haverkamp-Begemann and Anne-Marie S. Logan, 'European Drawings and Watercolors in the Yale University Art Gallery 1500-1900', New Haven and London, 1970, cat.no.388. The attribution of the Yale sheet is based on the drawing 'View of Grave' in the Rijksprentenkabinet, Amsterdam (inv.no.RP-T-1899-A-4243) which was reproduced in reverse as the twelfth plate in the series "Theatrum Praecipuarum Urbium Brabantiae", published by Claes Jansz Visscher (Plate 26 plate is lettered with "L. Jordaens" as draughtsman). Another sheet in the Rijksprentenkabinet has also been attributed to the same hand: View of Naarden (inv.no.RP-T-1966-69). Although the Yale landscape bears some resemblances to the two Amsterdam drawings, a relationship with the present sheet is more difficult to establish considering the lack of stylistic similarities.
