The 1996-7 Malcolm Exhibition label text:
De Moucheron's style, of which this is a particularly good example, grew out of the classical landscapes by his father, Frederik (1633/37-1686). Isaak's designs tend to be more arcadian and strictly symmetrical, and he often depicted idealised, formal gardens. He made a print after the present drawing.
Born in Amsterdam, Isaak belonged to the first generation of painters in Holland who specialised in creating wall-decorations rather than oil paintings.
