- The 1996 Malcolm Exhibition label text:
Probably the work of a glass-painter, and inspired by Hugo van der Goes. The foremost figure is based on the latter's lost fresco of the 'Meeting of David and Abigail'. Related drawings are in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and the Morgan Library, New York. Copies of the present sheet and that in New York are in the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and in Turin, respectively.
