Description
'Musée Dantan. Galerie des Charges et Croquis des célébrités de l'époque, avec texte explicatif et biographique' (Paris, H. Delloye) 1839; containing 100 tipped-in woodcuts by Maurisset after sculptures of Dantan Jeune, showing caricature busts of celebrities (mostly musicians and actors) including Balzac, Berlioz, Dantan himself, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, Maurisset, Rossini etc, each illustration facing humorous biography of the sitter, with list of illustrations at the end. Bound in blue half-leather with marbled boards, gold tooling on spine, marbled endpapers and deckled edges, green sheet as title-page and at the end with rectangular border and small ornament at the centre.
