We are grateful to Jacopo Gnisci (June 2020) for identifying the location of this drawing as Aksum (or Axum), the former capital of Ethiopian empire. As he noted the cathedral is one of the holiest sites of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church as it is believed to contain the Ark of Covenant.
