- Curator's comments
- It is believed that six plates were made after Turner's designs to illustrate a volume of poems by "Dr Broadley" for private circulation in around 1844. The designs were originally intended for other publications. The plates were later bought by Bell, who cut them in size, and published in 'Art and Song' in 1867.
The present plate is lettered with Goodall's name in proof, however with Cousen's name in published state in 1867 (1867,0209.53).
See 1958,0712.444 for print study on another view of the same lake.
