- Study for Reid 1100.
Title from GW Reid, 'A descriptive catalogue of the works of George Cruikshank.' Reid's catalogue gives an incorrect title for 1100: 'The alarm of the beautiful Fairy at discovering her shadow was alone.' The text states that the character named Fanny is alarmed at seeing her shadow alone. See Emilie de Rouillon's translation of 'Peter Schlemihl.' (1873,0510.1497- 1873,0510.1404. 165*, a.26.) p.24. "Fanny perceived but one shadow, her own."
The Department of Prints and Drawings holds two versions of 'Peter Schlemihl' which use Cruikshank's illustrations. See 1870, 1210.149-157, 184.f.26/1 for a German edition and 1873,0510.1497 165*, a.26 for an English edition.
Reid 4800 gives details of the various published editions of 'Peter Schlemihl' with Cruikshank's illlustrations.
