Description
Mounted fan-leaf with three medallions; the central medallion shows Louis XVI and the Dauphin standing before an open box, inscribed "DONS PATRIOS DES CITOYEN ET CITOYENNES", the lid of which is held open by a winged figure of Necker, who takes a bag of money out of the box; in the air are figures of Henri IV and Sully, floating on clouds, and on the ground papers lettered "Pensions" and on the upper margin (obscured by sequins) "A ces Nobles traits Henry IV et Sully reconnoissent les François" and on the lower "Louis XVI., Montrant à son Fils le Zele des François". On the left side, a medallion with a double bust portrait, inscribed "LOUIS XVI ET LE DAUPHIN and on the right, a bust portrait of two men wearing ruffs, inscribed "HENRY IV ET SULLY". aquatints, hand-coloured, pasted on to a cotton (?) fan-leaf, which is hand-painted with floral and gilt orements, mounted on carved ivory sticks painted with metallic ornaments
