- Curator's comments
- Hector and the Trojans disputing with Ajax and Menelaus for the body of Patroclus was engraved by Thomas Piroli and published by J Matthews, 441 Strand, January 12th, 1795. The engravings are in the department (reg.no 1973,U.1189[1-40]). This drawing focuses on the positioning of the figures. In the final engraving Patroclus's legs are arranged slightly differently, and the central figure's shield is held in front of, rather than behind, him.
