- Phyllis Dearborn Massar writes:
'The costume is for a character from the 1657 production, Il Podestà di Colognole, named in the cast "Il Moro Monello". According to documents listing the players (published by Ademollo), the character was played by the Moor belonging to His Highness, Cardinal Gian Carlo de' Medici'.
