- Declared to the Printsellers Association on 24 December 1875. A pair to P&D 1886-12-06-39. The painting was commissioned by Ernest Gambart in 1873 and first exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1874 (no.157) and its current location is unknown. See Vern Swanson, 'The Biography and Catalogue Raisonne of the Paintings of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema', (London; Garton & Co, 1990), no.157, pp.171-2. The print was exhibited at the summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1878 (no.1188) with that of 'The Sculpture Gallery'.
