Curator's comments
The print depicts the birth of the 'juste milieu', the political compromise which is credited with having guided the July Monarchy of Louis-Philippe. This print is a parody of 'The birth of Henri IV', a painting Eugène Devéria exhibited at the Salon in 1827.
