- Curator's comments
- After a painting exhibited at the Salon in 1831 and now in the Louvre (inv.7663). The painting was one of a series of four planned by Leopold Robert and representing the four seasons, each set in a different part of Italy. Only Spring, Summer and Winter were executed.
The Bibliographie de France records four plates engraved by Joubert after Robert on 19 August 1854: 'Les Moissonneurs', 'La Madone de l'Arc', 'Les Pêcheurs' (1st version), and 'Les Pêcheurs' (2nd version).
For untouched early state see 1885,1010.8.
